About Empowerment
Empowerment for Guru Sadhana of Karma Pakshi, the 2nd Karmapa. For these students, years of study and practice of the Mahamudra Ngöndro – finishing their 100,000 prostrations, 100,000 purification mantras, 100,000 mandala offerings and 100,000 to 200,000 guru yoga prayers – culminates in the receiving of the empowerment, reading transmission and practical instructions for this exceptionally powerful and profound Guru Sadhana.
According to Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, it was the wish of the 16h Karmapa that dharma students in the United States receive this practice, which is said to be the union of the Three Roots – the lama, the yidam, and the protector – all in one practice. The 16th Karmapa is said to have explained that in busy modern times, it may not be possible for some dharma students to complete Three-Year, Three-Month, Three-Day Retreat. But the essence of the Three-Year-Retreat, the unity of the practice of the lama, yidam and protector, is said to be contained in the Karma Pakshi Guru Sadhana.
